안녕하세요. 저는 노도환집사입니다. 저는 2019년부터 필그림교회에 출석하고 있습니다. 저는 이번에 2:7 영어 제자반을 수료했는데, 그동안 제가 2:7 제자반을 들으면서 경험하고 느낀 것들을 간증을 통해 짧게나마 나누려고 합니다.
 
2:7 제자반을 어떻게 알게 되었는가? 교회에 등록하고 새신자반을 끝낸 후에 머지않아 2:7제자반이 있다고 전화를 받아서 알게 되었습니다. 처음에는 제가 한국어가 서툴러서 많이 망설였습니다. 한국어로 대화하고 이해하는 것에는 큰 문제가 없지만 어려운 문장들이나 단어들을 표현해내고 해석하는 것에는 어려움이 있습니다. (참고로 저는 초등학교3학년 때 미국에 왔습니다.) 그런데 제가 보니까 필그림교회에 등록 후에는 새신자반을 이행한 이후 2:7제자반을 하는 것이 다음 단계로 가는 절차처럼 보여서, 언젠가는 해야 되는 것으로 생각되었습니다. 그러던 와중에 영어반이 있다고 말씀하셔서 감사한 마음으로 등록하게 되었습니다. 그리고 팬데믹 기간이라 화상수업을 할 수 있어서 더 감사했습니다. 아내의 동의하에 화상수업으로 2:7 제자반을 들을 수 있었고 저는 저를 향한 하나님의 계획하심을 기대하며 조심스레 제 삶을 맡겨 드렸습니다.
 
처음에 2:7 제자반이라고 이름을 들었을 때는 신기하다고 생각했습니다. 그 동안 제가 알고 있던 성경구절 안에 2:7 제자라고 생각나는 구절은 없었거든요. 그래서 더 기대가 되었던 것 같습니다, 시작한 후 몇 번 만나다 보니까, 진행, 형식, 말씀은 쉽게 재밌게 다가왔습니다. 전에 대학교에 다닐 때 학교에서 들었던 The Navigators 라는 그룹이 생각났습니다. 교재 안에는 말씀과 과정들을 통해서 나의 믿음생활과 예수 그리스도와 동행하는 삶을 중점으로 돌아보게 하는 도전들이 있었습니다. 그 분의 인도하심을 바라며 따라갔습니다.
 
은혜롭고 또 푸근한 선생님으로 열심히 섬겨주신 유신재집사님을 비롯해 3명의 학생으로, 총 4명의 남자로만 구성된 그룹이었지만, 하나님의 섭리와 역사를 저의 경험들과 생각들을 통해 함께 나눌 수 있는 수업이었습니다. 정말 적은 인원이었지만 훌륭한 집사님과 학생들이 새삼 더 감사하게 느껴졌습니다. 많은 사람이 한꺼번에 했다면 한정된 시간 안에 말씀을 나누지도 못했을 텐데 오히려 많은 나눔과 성장할 수 있는 기회가 많이 있었습니다.
 
많은 성경구절들을 읽고 다양하고 새로운 각도로 보면서 깨달을 수 있었고 삶속에서 마주치는 실질적인 문제들과 어려움에 대해서도 도움이 되는 관점을 보게 되었습니다. 매주 암송구절이 많았는데요. 많아도 너무 많았습니다. 저의 가족은 팬데믹을 시작하면서부터 매일 저녁 아이들 QT 책으로 가정예배를 드리고 있는데요, 매 주일이면 항상 새로운 요절을 암송해야 하는데 그것도 잘 안 외워져서, 4-5일씩 지나야 겨우 외워지는 것도 있는데, 2:7 제자반은 짧던 길던 조금도 타협함 없이 다 외워야 했습니다. 떠듬떠듬 할 때도 도와주시고 격려해주셔서 감사하게 잘 마칠 수 있었습니다.
 
책안에서 예제문들과 적용들을 학습하며 배웠지만, 그보다 개인적으로 물어보는 질문들, 내적갈등과 갈급으로 인한 물음표들은 서로 삶을 나누고 더 배워가는 과정이었습니다. 서로를 더 알아가게 되었고 그 과정 중에 저에게 큰 은혜주심을 감사했습니다. 2:7 제자반은 은혜 받는 좋은 경험이었고, 수고 많이 해주신 유신재집사님께 감사드립니다. 무엇보다 모든 걸 다스리시고 이끌어 가시는 하나님께 모든 영광을 돌립니다. 감사합니다. (노도환 집사)

Hello. I am Do Hwan Noh. I have been a member of Pilgrim Community Church since 2019. I’d like to share a short testimony about my experience in the English version of 2:7 discipleship class I just completed over the past 10 months.

How did I sign up for the 2:7 discipleship class? I don’t know about other 2:7 students, but I received a call to sign up not long after I finished the beginners class with Pastor Oh. At the first invitation, I hesitated strongly due to my lack of Korean. I can understand some Korean, but struggle with advanced vocabulary, both in understanding and in expression. But it seems to be a natural stepping stone for the regular Pilgrim Community Church congregation members to go through the class, so I wasn’t sure how long I could go on without taking this class. So I was surprised one day to hear that an English-language course was being provided. Plus, it was going to be conducted virtually, which felt so right given that we were in a pandemic. With the permission granted by my wife to hold this class virtually, I was cautiously optimistic in what was in store for me.

When I first heard about 2:7, it was an odd descriptor or title of the class. I couldn’t remember any well-known verses that had 2:7 in the chapter and verse. So I was intrigued, but after looking at a few pages, the format and language was somewhat familiar to me. It reminded me of a college campus ministry group that I had joined called The Navigators. And they use many illustrations to convey the relationships of faith and Jesus and our walk of life. I had a positive impression of The Navigators, but I tried to keep my mind clean on what to expect.

Our teacher of 3 students was Deacon Yu and he did such a wonderful job of making the class intimate, personal and warm. Sure, we were a group of 4 men, but he taught with a delicate touch and allowed us to freely express our experiences and share our thoughts. I felt blessed to have such a small class led by a wonderful teacher. In a bigger group, you sometimes don’t speak up due to time constraints, but we had many opportunities to share and grow as a group.

While the classes were helpful and allowed me to see the Bible verses in new ways and received many helpful tips, I struggled a lot with the Bible verse memorization. There were so many! This reminded me of a similar situation with our daily family devotion time that we do with our kids’ QT books. In the QT book, there is a Bible verse for each week that we try to memorize. And when we get to about Saturday, or sometimes even Friday, we sometimes become familiar with the verse to be able to recite it from memory. But the verses in 2:7 are not always short or straightforward! Despite the difficulty and my fumbling of the verses, my classmates and Deacon Yu have been very understanding and accommodating. Thank you all!

The books and many of the exercises in the book were academic in nature, but there were some personalized questions sprinkled throughout that allowed us to share our lives a bit more. I truly cherished those and felt a deeper bond with my classmates as a result. I think the 2:7 discipleship class was a good experience and thank Deacon Yu so much in teaching us over the past ten months. Thank you. (Deacon Sean Noh)
